Green Tree Frogs

The idea for this came from a Science book at my school called 'Focus on Art in Science' by Dellene Strong. The Green Tree Frog is actually this cute little guy who lives in tropical rainforests. (In trees I imagine).

My grade 1s and I went for a bit of a nature walk for this activity, making sure to collect 9 leaves each of the appropriate shape and size. (Before going outside we looked at the sort of shapes we would need and how many of each).

Once we got back to the classroom we glued the leaves onto coloured card to form the shape of a frog. (I had to draw this on the board for them to copy the formation).
We then used a small piece of stiff card dipped in orange paint to stamp on the fingers and toes. Once dry, I laminated each piece of work in an attempt to keep the leaves preserved (laminated things are really hard to photograph...). We added some googly eyes to complete our green frogs made of trees!

The creative approach for this project is fantastic.

I am working on a similar project using Magnolia leaves.

    Thanks for sharing

  3. These are terrific! They look so real...in a leafy kind of way.

I'm gonna try these with one of my classes!
    Thanks!
