Artist Trading Card Exchange Project

Inspiration: The lovely Nichole from Mini Matisse was the inspiration for this project. We both did this project with our grade 2 classes (and some of my grade 3s).

Students simultaneously made two identical A5 drawings based on a photograph of their community. (These photographs were provided by both students and teachers). My students were allowed to use a range of art media of their choice. Once completed, each student chose which drawing they wanted to keep and which drawing would be sent overseas to be exchanged with a buddy from Rogers Elementary School in Minnesota.

Student's work was mounted on card and a small sheet attached to the back of their trading card which tells their American buddy their name, where they live, what their drawing shows and what mediums were used to create it.

Once the exchange is complete, each student will complete a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting their work and that of their American buddy. The project aims to expose students to the ways in which artists of their age group explore a topic, the similarities and differences between ways of life in two countries and opportunity to make art for a specific purpose and audience.

Here are some of my favourite trading cards made by my students. Hope you enjoy this sneak preview Nichole......
