Paper Mache Starfish

These starfish were made by grade 1 and were constructed by twisting long pieces of aluminium foil into a cross shape then adding one more leg to form a starfish shape.

The students then decided which colour they wanted their starfish to be and paper mached the body by wrapping long strips of coloured tissue paper dipped into diluted PVA glue. At least 2 layers of tissue paper were needed. When completed and still gluey, we sprinkled glitter onto the starfish as a finishing touch. When dry the starfish are still a llittle maleable because of the aluminium foil base and so the legs can still be adjusted a little to form a decent shape.
