These cityscapes were inspired by this post from Mr E. These were created by some of my grade 3 students. Ours are not quite as abstract as we couldn't resist drawing back into them with oil pastels.
We began by looking at examples of different city skylines before the students drew their own city skyline and painted it with tempera paint. We then tried to create depth by drawing more building outlines on coloured paper, cutting them out and gluing them in layers upon the painted background. Many students recalled seeing fireworks over our own city and have later added these to their pictures.
LOVE these! i think we're going to give them a "go" in the coming weeks...i need an intense project to keep their focus as we wrap up 2011!!
