Students drew a chameleon on their page gripping a branch. They then cut out the shape of their chameleon and glued a page from a magazine to the back of their drawing creating a skin texture for the chameleon. They then had to try to camouflage their chameleon by drawing a background using the same colours featured in the magazine page. (Does that make sense?).
The first two photos show the most successful drawings, the others had a lot of trouble matching colours so there's not much camouflage going on there...
Still, they're pretty cute! Will try this again some day with an older group.

  1. Cute idea! I'll try this with my students. Thanks for the follow, Anne.

  2. What a great idea to use magazines for the chameleons! Another new lesson on my to do list, thanks!

  3. I love this idea, Anne! Your fourth did a great job with it. I too am going to put this one on file to try with my older students! Thanks for the great idea!

  4. The crossword puzzle one is so awesome! Great job.

  5. Such a fun project! My first graders just finished learning about animal adaptations and this was a perfect way to wrap up the unit. Thanks for sharing.
