This week is National Book Week in Australia and to celebrate, my grade ones did some drawings based on one of my favourite children's books, 'Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus!' by Mo Willems.
If you haven't come across this book, check it out. It's hilarious and one of those books that allows the kids to take part in the story, constantly saying 'NO!' to the cheeky pigeon. I also enjoy the illustrations enormously, so was inspired when I saw this lesson from Art Dish With MJ and this lesson from Mrs Knight's Smartest Artists, which use the book to introduce using shape to construct drawings. Thank you!
If you are looking for Mo Willems own step-by-step on How To Draw The Pigeon, you can find it HERE.

ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks Hope. A very fun lesson. Even the speech bubbles can be taught as oval + triangle to get shape ;)
DeleteSuch a great idea for a lesson! The kid's art work is darling.
